The truth

I have a Dr appointment tomorrow, which I am optimistic about. I am hoping that she will have some ideas and hear my concerns. I am 5 lbs over WW goal right now with no changes to food or activity ūüė¶ That makes me up over 13 lbs from where i’ve been for YEARS. Something isn’t right at all. ¬†I’m embarrassed to say that I’m over. But I also know it’s nothing I did to cause it.

I don’t know what my tests mean really, hopefully she can share more on those. I do know my Hashi’s is still pretty bad and my hormones are all whacked out. ¬† I also had 2 ultrasounds recently that I’m sure we’ll go over.

I am still hanging on to hope and optimism, because I DO feel better overall.  Not having any clothes that fits sucks, but I am hoping that changes soon.

Heck yes!

So I’ve been on my new med/supplement schedule for almost a week. ¬†The iodine didn’t come until Saturday, so that’s been a little less time.

OMG.

I feel alive again. ¬†Seriously. ¬†I have energy, I am not tired, but despite that, I was able to sleep ALL night last night. ¬†I usually get up 2-5 times a night, but last night I didn’t wake up until 4:15 and I was getting up at 4:40 anyhow, so I consider that a full night’s rest.

My fingers are crossed that this isn’t a “honeymoon” phase and this magic doesn’t go away.

I called the NP today to talk to her about my test results and left a message that I forgot I took my meds right before the appt, so the results will be skewed.  Waiting to hear back from her on what I will need to do.  Hopefully we are re-testing that.

Happy dance!

Things I like Thursday: my new Dr.

Ok, well I think I like her. ¬†I’ve only seen her once. ¬†And she’s not a Dr., she’s a PA. ¬† She was super smart and so easy to talk to and SO full of energy. ¬†Just talking to her made me happy!

So I found her on Facebook. ¬†Don’t laugh. ¬†I belong to like 10 hormone, adrenal, and thyroid groups on Facebook. ¬†Someone asked for a referral in Austin area and 2 others chimed in about this lady. ¬†So I wrote down her name and made an¬†appointment in early April and had my first visit with her yesterday. ¬†Her office is pretty far from work and home, but if she’s awesome, she’s worth it.

My favorite thing is, that she’s into trying natural approaches. ¬†She took me off of the estradiol patch, testosterone, DHEA, and halved¬†the progesterone. ¬† She added 3 supplements, 2 to help with girl problems and the other to help my iodine levels and a probiotic. ¬†So I am still on quite a few things, but less hormones and drugs. ¬†Now the majority is supplements.

Girl problems? ¬†Yes. ¬†I haven’t had a cycle in over 2 years. ¬†That’s why the other Dr. had me on estradiol and progesterone. ¬†I was on both for about 8 months and the patch most recently, which I HATED. ¬†Talk about water retention? ¬†Yeah. ¬†Not pretty. ¬†She didn’t like me being on all of that and to be honest, I didn’t like it either. ¬†I don’t care if I have a cycle, I just want to be HEALTHY. She told me that everything should fall into place eventually and she thinks she can make my girl stuff and my stomach work right. ¬†Those things should be corrected when my hormones and other imbalances are fixed.

She said we’ll see how I do on this¬†regiment for a month or so, and then test my levels to see what is going on. ¬†They did a thyroid panel yesterday on my way out, but i’d taken my PM dose like an hour before that, so it’ll likely be skewed. ¬†I forgot to remind her of that before I went to the lab.

So here we go again. ¬†New medical expert, new plan. ¬†Fingers are crossed that this is what makes the world of difference in my health and how I feel ūüôā

The medical update

Had another follow-up Tuesday with the Dr. about the medications i’ve been on, my labs I had done 2 weeks ago, and progress made.

I’ve been feeling better for the most part, some areas better than others. ¬†Some areas just haven’t changed at all.

Test results show progress, but not enough, I am still far from where I need to be. ¬†So all medications are being increased in strength. ¬†The thyroid though, they said they can’t increase too fast, because there is a chance of heart palpitations and other issues I don’t want to experience. ¬†So we are moving that up, with the long term goal of making it to at least double of what I am on now (right now half a grain, moving up to 3/4 grain this time around).

The nurse thinks that after this next round of trying on the increased dosage, that I should be much closer to being optimal on everything but maybe thyroid, that may take more tinkering. ¬†More labs in 10 weeks, another appointment in November. ¬†Hopefully with everything else being more optimal, my cholesterol will come down (it’s even higher now!)

I still owe another Dr. an annual thyroid ultrasound which I have rescheduled twice already. ¬†Maybe i’ll get that taken care of in the next few weeks.

So slowly but surely, at least some areas are getting better. ¬†I’m hopeful that we’ll just keep moving down this path and see where it takes us!
